This page was last edited on 25 Novemberat I know that sounds like someone walked into his office with a case, like he’s a PI, but in reality Bernard is a spook, of sorts, and he’s just curious as to what happened to the money, especially because it may involve his wife, and it certainly seems to involve a good friend of his nook the Department.

I also like the addition of Dodo, Gloria’s sort-of uncle who’s up to his neck in the spy plot. But then, that’s why Len Deighton ‘s Bernard Samson novels are such fun to read.

Lots of ghosts coming out of the woodwork for this one. This is the fourth Deighton novel I’ve read and the fourth that I’ve enjoyed immensely. It does not help that he has a reputation for being overly paranoid.
His answer sets up the story for the second book of the trilogy, Spy Line.
Overall this was very well written, with a good voice. In a bizarre sequence a motor cycle courier delivers tickets and instructions for Samson to fly to Los Angeles. How important that is to you likely depends on whether or not you have Spy Line on hand; I do, so I was still able to deihton Spy Hookbut it’s not as good as what’s come before — or, hopefully, what’ll come next.
