Just get a python or a ruby book and get on with it. The PDF is nice as it has the book pracfical one file easy searching that can be used offline. There are also portable electronic readers Sony Reader, Illiad out there that are rather useful to read these books with the look but not feel of paper.

Actually a very powerful language that I would enjoy trying, though I’m learning Aress right now instead. While it’s unlikely that I’ll get rich off my royalties, we don’t have to sell all that many copies for Apress to turn a profit and show the naysayers that Lisp has legs yet.

This book provides an excellent overview to Common Lisp language starting from basic constract and going foreward with real world examples and more complex things like macroses. I personally found this book a disappointment The little schemer and the rest, or if you really want to learn common lisp take another one that goes deeper into the language.

I bet that if pratical took this book first, you would still be using it. But I largely agree, especially for Common Lisp. I especially liked who naturally author used macros applicationin the examples he provides.
I have a feeling that every primary feature of Lisp is touched upon in the book, it’s just a matter of retaining it and perhaps understanding the context.
