I got the godberaen that the author wanted us to relate and root for her, but I just found her to be the most fake and insufferable. Usually when it comes to siblings, I prefer one over the other, but both girls were great to read about and I am glad that Diana did not resent her sister in the end.
I loved the time period this was set in as well as Godberson’s description of their wardrobe and settings, but I never really got attached to the characters nor was I really invested in the story. The villainess bitchy girl, the little sister, the rich cad, all get more detailed character development, but I had a hard time getting into them as well, because they weren’t immediately likable.

God was she a beaut. But I didn’t like Gossip Girl and I really couldn’t bring myself to even finish this one.

But neither is Elizabeth. And that’s why her best friend Penelope Hayes hates her. I loved how much of a little rebel Diana was, and that she was able to retain much of her real-ness, which in turn caught the eye of her older sis’ fiancee.
And you better believe that this book was a heck of an entertainment!
That being said, I latdios the back cover: I personally liked Diana best, but Elizabeth was a close second. The Luxe anma a novel about true love and how it wins out the genre of this book is historical fiction. Probably because she was the most honest, direct and least girly, she had spunk and flair and was the least superficial. What a stupid last name! If you are in the mood for something different, give this series a chance!
If her reputation is blown to smitherines then so be it, alteast she’d be living and not quietly sipping tea and acting like a robot with impeccable manners and a fetish for beautiful dresses and godebrsen conversation. The novel shows how a true lover would do anything for you. I also don’t think it was historically accurate, which killed some of my enjoyment.

For its intendend audience, teen girls, The Luxe would be a fabulous introduction to that genre of writing.
I’ve seen this book compared to Gossip Girl, and I don’t think that’s an entirely fair analogy. I liked the mystery an romance in this story, but I really enjoyedte oppourtunity to read something historical, without it putting me to sleep.
